learned a bit about this recently, as it applies to natural forms... what a fascinating concept. though checking out the fibonacci tribe it looks like the concept has its detractors... does anyone have any fresh enthusiasm or insight to share on the topic? what are some of the best resources for learning more about fibonacci & patterns in nature?

Thu, July 16, 2009 - 8:35 PMI came across this concept on tribe. checked out all the books I could find at the library. and ordered some online that were recommended but the library didn't have. I was totally astonished. Parts of me kept saying "Yes! Yes!" -

Re: fibonacci sequence
Tue, December 8, 2009 - 10:59 PMActually the Nautilus DOES NOT represent the Fibonacci sequence, but rather a logarithmic progression based on 3.
It is a misconception in the popular literature.
I know this because I tried to make a nautilus shell sculpture in stainless steel using a Fibonacci Spiral I had plotted and found that it did not work. I had a cut section of the real nautilus to check by.
Here's a link to a paper by a British mathmetician illustrating the misconception:

And here's my sculpture:

Re: fibonacci sequence
Sat, December 19, 2009 - 8:27 AMOoh.. I have seen that documentary, Isaac, & it is *AMAZING*... Discovered it a couple of months ago, around the time I made this initial post.
It confirmed so many intuitions for me, & made me feel completely vindicated for having founded this tribe back in 2004, or whenever that was.
Again folks, that's 'Fractals - The Colors of Infinity' by Arthur Clarke, available free & for immediate viewing on google video.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for anyone passing through this tribe. Be prepared to have your mind blown! :) (in a good way) -
